World Book and Copyright Day is a special event to promote the joy of books and reading.
In 1995, the UNESCO General Conference declared April 23 as World Book and Copyright Day. It is the presumed anniversary of the death of some of the greats of world literature, including William Shakespeare and El Inka Garcilaso de la Vega. With its commitment to books and copyright, UNESCO is not only campaigning for the rights of authors, but also for creativity, diversity and equal access to knowledge.
